Maureen is a pioneer in the field of Animal Assisted Therapy in Singapore. She is the first in Singapore to include the use of Therapy Dogs in Counselling sessions, and has been featured for her pioneering work on numerous occasions on Television, Radio and Print.
She obtained her Master's Degree in this field of specialization at University of Denver, the world's leading University recognized for its research and applied work in Animal Assisted Therapy. In addition, she was also trained at the International Institute of Animal Assisted Play Therapy.
Maureen works with children, teenagers and adults on a wide variety of issues such as depression, anxiety, self-esteem and anger. She also provides coaching for parents and families on managing conflicts and challenges at home. Maureen practices the Gottman Method Couples Therapy to help couples that are struggling with relationship issues. She is attuned to cultural sensitivities and has worked with clients of varying nationalities and cultural backgrounds. She has a plethora of experience working with individuals, groups and organizations in Singapore and the United States of America.
She utilizes evidence-based techniques during her sessions including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Solution Focused Therapy, where she works alongside her canine co-therapists to bring insights that change the way people think, behave and feel.
In addition to practicing Animal Assisted Therapy at Pawsibility, Maureen is also a teaching faculty member at the University of Denver. She is registered with the Association of Psychotherapists and Counsellors (Singapore) as a Certified Master Practitioner.
